At Security.org, we’re always checking out the latest smart home security products, so naturally, when we heard that #Kangaroo, an exciting new startup, was making their own doorbell camera, we had to check it out. At only $19.99, this is by far the most affordable doorbell camera we’ve seen, but later, we learned exactly why the #KangarooDoorbellCamera is priced so low, and the answer may surprise you.

Unlike most doorbell cameras that record video, the #KangarooDoorbellCamera only showed us images, no video recordings or live streaming footage. That was a pretty big disappointment, but it certainly explained why the doorbell camera was so cheap in the first place.
Another disappointment? The device also lacked speakers and microphones for two-way audio, so we couldn’t actually greet our guests remotely, just see pictures of them through the Kangaroo: Simple Home Security app. We got alerted whenever the camera detected motion but again, only with a screenshot. Plus, the images were only in 480p as opposed to 1080p HD, the industry standard, and the field of view was only 60 degrees, which in our opinion wasn’t wide enough to gain much of a view. However, if you’re ok with no audio, no video and photos that aren’t the clearest in the world, the doorbell camera may work for you, especially if you’re on a budget.
